FAQ/WTF - Mijente

Join Mijente in the fight for Latinx rights and justice.

Who can become a member? Why should I join?

Mijente members are Latinx/Chicanx people across the US and Puerto Rico who share our pro-pueblo values and sign up at mijente.net/join. Members contribute monthly or annual dues to sustain and grow the life of our organization.

All Mijente members get:

  • Connected to a growing national network of Latinx/Chicanx change-makers across the country
  • Onboarded through our welcome series
  • Exclusive access to members only content and programming on a local, regional and national level

I don’t live in the US. Can I join?

Formal Mijente membership is for Latinx/Chicanx peoples based in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. If you joined while you were living in the US or Puerto Rico but have since moved to a different country, you’re welcome to maintain your digital membership by participating in our online education programs, quarterly member calls and other spaces that allow for digital engagement.

What are membership dues for?

Mijente is a vehicle for building independent Latinx political power. This calls for our work to be gente funded, pooling our resources where our values are and self-determining the direction of our organization. Member dues contribute to our campaigns, educational and cultural programming, and digital and in-person organizing support for members. This includes our digital platforms and petition-making site, regional/ national convenings and actions, trainings, y más.

We are 60 million Latinxs in the US and by 2060, we’ll be double that or 30% of the population. There is only strength in numbers if we are organized. The fight for our people is now, and we are proud to count on our gente’s apoyo.

Do I have to do anything once I become a member?

Nope! You don’t have to do more than what you’re already doing. Mijente is a political home to help you strengthen your work, not necessarily add to it. All members are invited to take action with us at the pace and level that you are able. You can stay informed through our emails or social media, join us on membership calls and events, or take leadership by coordinating Mijente work, in person or digitally.

I think I’m a member but I’m not sure. How can I check?

You should have received a confirmation email immediately after signing up. Search for it in your inboxes, including spam to be safe. If you’re still unsure, email [email protected] with the subject line “member status” and let us know the email address you may have used to sign-up for membership and our Bienvenida crew will follow up.

How do I find other members in my area or with similar interests? What’s the best way to communicate with other members?

We’re creating tech tools for members to have easier access to each other and to connect based on shared interests. In the meantime:

Can I use the Mijente brand for xyz?

  • Individual members who aren’t part of a national crew, local circle or asamblea cannot use the Mijente brand or logo for individual purposes.
  • Local circles, asambleas and national crews may only use the Mijente logo and brand for purposes related to the work of the specific crew and in alignment with Mijente’s mission, principles, and relevant legal guidelines.
