Who is Mijente?  Mijente is a new national hub for Latinx and Chincanx organizing. Using a hybrid offline and online platform, we’re creating a political home that brings together leadership, advocacy, culture and media to spark the culture and policy change we need.

MIJENTE – LANZATE – THE JUMP OFF CONVENING 2015

Mijente invites proposals for sessions (workshops, plenaries, discussions) focused on unifying and uplifting our voices and experiences as Latinxs, Chicanxs, queer and gender non conforming, Afro-Latinxs, undocumented, low-income, incarcerated folks, and youth with ways to build movement in more effective ways. Sessions should be diving into all social change and transformation, across sectors and communities, externally and within ourselves. Sessions could also be historical and reflection or action based.

Sessions are for an hour and 15 minutes, content should be for 1 hour.

Please make sure you accurately describe your proposed session, here’s a quick guide:

  • Workshop – Interactive throughout, participatory where people are guided and engaged through a said topic.
  • Plenary/Presentation – This features set speakers presenting on stated topic with time for audience response.
  • Platica/Discussion – Open dialogue between participants on a specific topic, facilitator helps keep the conversation going but this is where approaches, ideas and experience are shared openly.

Once you apply, you will receive a notification that we received your submission. We will confirm the status of your session as soon as possible. We cannot guarantee all submissions will be accepted. Some of the factors we’ll consider are: topic and how much it’s being covered in other sessions, methodology and how much it’s being used, space and capacity. Also, we may suggest linking sessions together if there is overlap.
